Masami Kurumada's original mythological fantasy manga ran in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1985 to 1990, and it has over 34 million copies in print worldwide. The manga quickly inspired a 1986 television anime series that was popular not only in Japan, but also in France, Italy, other parts of Europe, Brazil, other parts of South and Central America, and Asia. The anime aired in more than 80 countries.

Saint Seiya Omega, a sequel to the first anime, aired from April 2012 to this past March. A decade after the last Saint Seiya film, 2004's Saint Seiya Tenkai-hen Jōsō ~Overture~, a new CG film directed by Keiichi Satou (Tiger & Bunny, Ashura) opened this past June.

Broken Blade Fantasy Robot Manga Has New Anime in the Works

2nd adaptation of Yunosuke Yoshinaga's manga after 2010-11 6-part film series

Yunosuke Yoshinaga's fantasy robot manga Broken Blade (Break Blade) has a second anime adaptation project in the works. Yoshinaga himself revealed the new project in an interview published in the September issue of Media Factory's Da Vinci magazine on Tuesday. More details will be provided in the future.
The manga already inspired a six-part 2010-2011 film series that Sentai Filmworks released in North America. Sentai Filmworks describes the film series:

In Cruzon, children are born with the ability to control quartz. This power allows them to levitate simple objects—or control enormous and complex mobile battle suits called Golems. But when an ancient Golem is discovered during the height of a brutal war, a young king and his beautiful queen turn to Rygart Arrow. Though an “un-sorcerer”, Rygart can miraculously pilot this ancient and powerful weapon. But in war, school friends can turn into bitter enemies and allies have suspicious motives.

Flex Comix published the manga in Japan originally, and G-mode's Comic Meteor website has since continued the series. The manga's 12 volumes have at least 2.1 million copies in print. CMX Manga published three manga volumes in North America before DC Comics shut down the imprint in 2010.

The 2010-2011 films were helmed by chief director Tetsuro Amino (Macross 7, Shiki) and director Nobuyoshi Habara (Negima, Fafner), with Production I.G and Xebec handling the animation. Masashi Sogo (Bleach, Fairy Tail, Gantz) wrote the screenplays.

Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance Light Novels Gets TV Anime

Yū Shimizu's fantasy of boy who accidentally becomes 1st known male to make contract with a spirit

The official Twitter account for the Comic Alive magazine's editors announced on Sunday that anime adaptations for five of the MG Bunko J light novel titles have been green-lit, including Yū Shimizu's Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance (Spirit Elementalist's Blade Dance). The announcement was first made at Media Factory's Summer School Festival 2013 event.

In the "elemental fantasy" of Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance, only a pure girl may enter into a spirit contract. At Areishia Spirit Academy, the daughters of nobility are assembled to take elite classes and become spirit elementalists. A boy named Kamito happened to be peeping on a student named Claire while she was taking a bath, and he accidentally makes a contract with a spirit instead of Claire. Now, Kamito has become something once thought impossible in this world — a male spirit elementalist.

Shimizu launched the light novel series in 2010 with art by Hanpen Sakura, and Media Factory published the 11th volume this month. Artist Issei Hyōju (MM!) has been drawing the manga adaptation in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Alive magazine since last year.
